The Ministry of Health (Minsa) informs the population of the Llano de Piedra district and the Las Tablas area that the tap water is safe for human consumption. This follows certification by an external laboratory that tests conducted by the National Aqueducts and Sewers Institute (IDAAN) on the water network in these areas, supplied by the Rufina Alfaro water treatment plant, meet established quality standards. This measure is the result of a coordinated and exhaustive process initiated by the National Government after contamination was detected in the La Villa River, the water source for the area. Minsa is now awaiting the completion of disinfection work on the distribution networks in Guararé, La Villa de Los Santos, and Chitré. This is to validate the laboratory tests that IDAAN will conduct before certifying the water as safe for human consumption in these other districts. We know the wait has been long, but this months-long process is a guarantee and certification that the drinking water you receive in your homes will be of quality and safe for consumption, thus ensuring the health of the entire population. The Ministry of Health and IDAAN reiterate their commitment to the safety of drinking water and call on the population to stay informed only through official channels and spokespersons.
